Percocet

Percocet is a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen. Percocet is used when other pain medications don’t work well enough. It is a restricted substance due to the high risk for misuse, dependence, and addictive behavior.

Percocet (oxycodone/acetaminophen), how it works

Percocet is a combination medication that combines oxycodone and acetaminophen to treat pain.

  • Oxycodone is an opioid receptor-agonist. It attaches itself to mu-opioid sensory receptors within your brain to reduce the pain you experience.
  • Acetaminophen acts as an analgesic. It can reduce pain by stopping the production of certain chemicals.

Percocet is used to treat what?

  • Non-opioid medications are not enough to relieve pain.
