What is Lortab?
Lortab is a combination of hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Hydrocodone, an opioid pain medicine, is available in Lortab. Opioids are sometimes called narcotics. Acetaminophen (also known as Tylenol) is a pain reliever with a lower potency that enhances the effects of hydrocodone. Lortab relieves moderate to severe discomfort. Lortab can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.
Uses:
This combination medicine relieves moderate to severe pain. This combination contains an opioid ( Hydrocodone ) and a nonopioid ( Acetaminophen). Hydrocodone changes the way your body responds to and feels pain. Acetaminophen is also effective in reducing a fever.
Lortab Side Effects:
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy to Lortab, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips or tongue; swelling in your throat.
Acetaminophen can cause severe skin reactions that are fatal. This may happen even if you’ve taken it before and never had a reaction. Call your doctor immediately if you experience skin redness, blistering or peeling.
If you experience:
- Slow heartbeat, shallow breathing
- A feeling of light-headedness, as if you could pass out.
- Confuse yourself with unusual thoughts or behaviors;
- seizure (convulsions);
- Easy bruising and bleeding
- infertility, missed menstrual periods;
- Impotence, sexual issues, and loss of interest in sex are all symptoms that can be associated with impotence.
- Liver problems: nausea, upper abdominal pain, itching (itching of the skin and eyes), loss of appetite, dark colored urine, clay-colored stool, or jaundice.
- Low cortisol levels: nausea, vomiting, loss in appetite, dizziness and worsening fatigue or weakness.
Serotonin Syndrome symptoms include: hallucinations and agitation; fever, sweating or shivering; rapid heartbeat, muscle stiffness or twitching; loss of coordination.
Lortab can cause a variety of side effects.
- drowsiness, headache;
- Constipation, upset stomach
- Blurred vision
- Dry mouth
Is Lortab Addictive?
Lortab addiction may not be common, but it is possible. Around 5% of those who are prescribed Lortab or other Opioid-based medications will abuse them and develop an addiction. If you receive a Lortab prescription, it is important to follow the instructions on the prescription.
Lortab Withdrawal
Opioid addiction can be painful. Hydrocodone addiction occurs when someone used to Lortab, or other Hydrocodone-based medications, suddenly stops using them or reduces the dose. Opioid withdrawal can prevent people from recovering. Hydrocodone withdrawal symptoms include:
- Anxiety
- Chills
- Congestion
- Frequent yawning
- Blood pressure increases
- Pain sensitivity increased
- Insomnia, restlessness and insomnia
- Irritability
- Muscle pain
- Nausea and vomiting
- Rapid heartbeat
- Runny nose
- Shaking and Tremors
- Stomach problems
- Sweating
- Tearing of the Eyes
